Ambulance Stations still on HoldNo progress on the promised new Morwell and Moe Ambulance Stations. By Portal Admin - 16th November 2020 - Back to News Member for Morwell Russell Northe has expressed his extreme disappointment in the State Governments lack of communication and information regarding the progress of the promised new Morwell and Moe Ambulance Stations.
Mr Northe had again posed questions in Parliament earlier in the year by asking the very simple question as to when the ambulance stations would be built following years of promises.
"This latest question was asked seven months ago in Parliament, yet we have only just now received a reply, and the reply leaves our community none the wiser about the future of the Morwell and Moe Ambulance Stations" Mr Northe said
"I asked specific questions in Parliament on 1st April and the Minister of the time was supposed to respond within 30 days, yet here we are well over 200 days later and still in the dark" Mr Northe continued.
This has been a long-running issue dating back to 2014 to replace local ambulance stations that were desperately in need of updating.
During the 2018 election campaign, a new Morwell ambulance branch was committed to, and at the time, the Minister was quoted as saying;
"The Andrews Labor government is building a cutting-edge ambulance station for Morwell paramedics to ensure they have the safe, modern facilities they deserve – and patients get faster care when they need it".
"There were even signs erected at both the Morwell and Moe ambulance station sites in 2018 that stated the new stations would be open in 2019. But here we are at the end of 2020 and there are absolutely no details available regarding when construction will commence or when the stations will be operational" Mr Northe said.
"It’s difficult to fathom how you can go from being operational in 2019 to in late 2020 saying the Government is now looking at a staged planning and design program – what does that even mean" Mr Northe said.
"This is a real kick in the guts for local paramedics who had expectations they would be operating out of new stations right now. It’s wonderful Traralgon has a new station as promised, but quite rightly questions are being asked about what on earth is going on with the Morwell and Moe ambulance stations" Mr Northe concluded.
