Continued Growth In Jobs

Employment is continuing to experience strong growth in Baw Baw according to recent Small Area Labour Market statistics.

By Baw Baw Shire Council - 25th March 2004 - Back to News

The very latest figures show that the Baw Baw Shire labour force has once again grown from 17,546 in September 2003 to in 18,189 in December 2003. Unemployment has fallen from 3.9% to 3.3% in that same period.

This establishes Baw Baw as having the lowest unemployment rate in the entire Gippsland region.

Baw Baw’s downward unemployment trend was also reflected by the Gippsland, Victorian and Australian unemployment levels which also saw reductions in levels. The 3.3% unemployment rate maintains Baw Baw’s position as having one of the lowest unemployment levels in Australia and can be compared to the Gippsland average of 5.5%, the Melbourne average of 5.2% and the Australian average of 5.9%.

Baw Baw Chief Executive Officer, John Dyer said that he was very happy with the results and stated that the figures were reflective of the strengths of the Shire and its growing reputation for lifestyle and business innovation.
