Magistrate John Dugdale imposed a $1200 aggregate fine on Lakes Entrance fisherman, Paul Anastasopoulos.

The court heard that between July and August 2005, Mr Anastasopoulos failed to comply with stated conditions on his licence on numerous occasions.

The breaches, which occurred at Lakes Entrance, included unloading prior to the nominated time, two counts of failing to record the required information of the daily fishing log and failing to comply with requirements of entry.

Senior Fisheries Victoria Officer Peter Simpson said, "It is very important that all commercial fishermen comply with licence conditions and the regulations that are in place."

In another case in the same court, two men from the Melbourne suburb of Springvale were convicted and fined an aggregate of $2000 each in relation to a number of Fisheries offences.

The two men were apprehended on 28th of July, this year, on the Mitchell River, by Fisheries Victoria Officers from Lakes Entrance who were responding to a call from a member of the public.

A search of the two men’s car revealed 67 significantly undersized black bream.

Members of the public who observe any suspected illegal fishing activity are reminded to call the 24 hour 13 FISH (133 474) reporting line.
