Latrobe City Council’s chief executive officer, Gary Van Driel, said that the project would see significant improvements for the club’s players and visiting teams.

"Council has provided a significant funding investment to progress this project. The existing courts were in need of upgrading. The Moe Tennis Club approached us to work together to get the best outcome for the club and for the community. Working collaboratively with the club’s committee and sourcing funding has driven this project forward. The club is to be commended on its positive attitude.

"We want our community to be able to access quality sporting facilities. Playing sports not only improves physical health but helps with mental and emotional wellbeing by providing social opportunities for families and individuals.

"This project will see upgraded facilities which should translate into increased membership for the club as well as generating a feeling of pride in the Moe community," Mr Van Driel said.

Brad Griffin, President of the Moe Tennis Club, said that the club was excited to be starting work on 10 new courts.

"Our club is located in the beautiful Moe Botanical Gardens. Improved facilities will attract new players and we look forward to completion of the project so we can fully reap the benefits of the upgrade.

"This project has been almost ten years in the making but with outstanding support from our committee and the financial support from Latrobe City Council, it has been a great team effort.

"The project is a benefit to all in the community, with new facilities for hire and the ability to have tournaments and players from across the state," Mr Griffin concluded.
