Resilient Communities Grants Available Member for Morwell Russell Northe is encouraging local councils, community groups and business associations to apply for up to $110,000 in funding through the Victorian Coalition Government‟s By Russell Northe - 5th September 2013 - Back to News Resilient Community Program.
Mr Northe said the Victorian Government‟s $1.5 million Resilient Community Program assists regional and rural communities to build their capacity to tackle hazards including bushfires, floods and storm surges.
"The Resilient Community Program, which replaces the Fire Ready Communities Grants program, provides funding for community-led projects to assist them to better prepare for, withstand and recover from natural disasters and other hazards," Mr Northe said.
"Our communities face unique challenges and a „one-size-fits-all‟ approach is not always appropriate – in fact, some communities can face multiple hazards.
"It is local people who know what it takes to make their communities safer, better informed and more prepared to tackle the impact of these hazards.
The Resilient Community Program would provide funding for:
Community-led projects that establish shared responsibility for all hazards
Education and engagement activities to help communities develop an understanding of risks and how to take an active role in emergency management
Community-led local risk and hazard workshops
Programs to develop community leadership and to support emergent leaders to help build resilience in communities.
Local councils, community groups and business associations that are interested in applying should contact their local Department of State Development, Business and Innovation office.
