Petition organised against vehicle registration fee rise

Local pensioners, health card holders and Veteran Affairs gold card recipients are being urged to sign a petition objecting to the rise incurred for their motor vehicle registration.

By Craig Ingram - 29th July 2004 - Back to News

The Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has organised the petition following concerns expressed by residents in his electorate.

"Many people have expressed the difficulty of having to meet the $79 required for their car registration," Mr Ingram said.

"Prior to July 1, pensioners, health card holders and Veteran Affairs gold card recipients were exempt from paying and from July 1 they are required to pay half the registration fee.

"Petitions are available from my office and I am sure that many local groups would have no trouble in gathering signatures.

"Anyone requiring a petition to be sent to them should contact my office.

"I will present the petition during the spring session of Parliament, which commences on August 24," Mr Ingram concluded.
