Do Red Heads Have More Fun?Hair raising... the quest to raise funds to help find a cure for Leukaemia By Bass Coast Shire Council - 19th March 2002 - Back to News Cr Miranda Sage, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council, yesterday dyed her hair raspberry red to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
The five hour ordeal included bleaching Cr Sage’s dark locks blonde before applying the red permanent dye.
"I was contemplating keeping my hair blonde to test the old adage that blondes have more fun," said Cr Sage. "But I was keen to keep my promise of a raspberry red-haired Mayor."
The Mayor spent five hours at Tangles Hair Boutique in San Remo in her quest to raise funds to help find a cure for Leukaemia and provide urgently needed support services for patients and their families.
"For someone who has never changed hair colour before, it is a bit of a shock but there has been a great response from the public," said Cr Sage.
However, Cr Sage said that she was pleased to be able to participate in the World’s Biggest Shave for a Cure because it raises funds and attention for people undergoing treatment for Leukaemia.
Each day, 17 Australians are diagnosed with Leukaemia or a related blood disorder. World’s Greatest Shave for a Cure is the Leukaemia Foundation’s biggest fundraising event and encourages people around Australia to shave or colour their hair.
People interested in supporting Cr Sage and donating money to the Leukaemia Foundation can donate money at any Council office.
