Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said tidying up at the site would continue over the next few days."The modifications to the weir are being done this week, along with a general tidy up around the lake such as washing down paths and soil works to repair the damage to the lawns caused by heavy machinery. A sweeper will be cleaning the road and kerb to ensure the area is neat and tidy for Easter. "After the Easter break, the floating reeds will be removed. This work has to be undertaken by hand from a boat in the lake. The path around the lake will be topped up and the garden beds will be re-mulched and planted," Cr O’Callaghan said. Cr O’Callaghan added that the water levels would refill over the coming days. "The lake was drained to enable the works on the weir to be completed, so it will take little while to fill again. There is also the possibility that we may also have to drain the lake again in May to restore the fountain system. "However, the end result of the project will be a healthy, clean lake in which the community can take pride and visitors can enjoy," Cr O’Callaghan concluded.
