Freeza Mentoring Program – Applications Now Open!

Budding young musicians and music industry hopefuls can now apply for the FReeZA mentoring program, delivered by youth music organisation The Push with support from the Victorian Coalition Government.

By Russell Northe - 25th September 2013 - Back to News

Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the program provides young people with one-on-one mentoring from a music industry professional to help build their skills in a field of their interest. "Whether you’re interested in performance, technical production, marketing and publicity, event management or music business operations, I encourage you to apply to this fantastic program," Mr Northe said. "The program provides 30 young people each year with support to pursue their dream jobs and establish important contacts in the music industry.

"The Freeza mentoring program is funded by the Victorian Government and presented by The Push.

"It offers young Victorians aged 18-25 years the opportunity to be teamed up with an established music industry professional gain advice, get hands-on training and experience and learn more about the career opportunities that exist within the industry.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to be creative, gain behind-the-scenes knowledge about the industry, acquire practical skills, and work alongside their mentors. "Young people in the program can get extra support in developing their CVs, folios and press kits. They also get referrals to larger scale industry events and internships with leading music businesses and access to other employment and volunteering opportunities." Mr Northe said the program, now in its second year, was an exciting addition to the $2.4 million annual FReeZA program that provides drug, alcohol and smoke free events for young people across the State.

"Previously Gippsland Medicare Local - Headspace was successful in receiving a grant for $73,500 to deliver the Latrobe FReeZA program," Mr Northe said. "The Victorian music scene thrives on talented and passionate young musicians and event managers, which is why it is so important their skills are further developed through initiatives such as the FReeZA mentoring program. Applications close on 20 November 2013. For more information on how to apply visit www.thepush.com.au or www.freeza.vic.gov.au
