Local caravan park features in National magazineTraralgon's Four Star caravan park, Tandara, featuring in the December edition of the popular caravaner's magazine, Caravan World By support@gippslander.com - 30th November 2001 - Back to News Local tourism has received a boost with Traralgon's Four Star caravan park, Tandara, featuring in the December edition of the popular caravaner's magazine, Caravan World. The magazine, distributed Australia wide, gives a glowing two page story on Tandara Caravan park's features, together with the background on many of the region's tourism icons.
This popular park was also the choice by the crew of the Navy's HMAS Melbourne, for their overnight stay during their recent Sydney to Melbourne Charity Bike ride. In keeping with the spirit of the sailor's ride to raise money for under privileged children, Tandara, kindly donated the accommodation to the team.
Anything to encourage more visitors to the region is beneficial. Caravanning in the Phillip Island, Gippsland Discovery Region, which includes Latrobe City, accounts for the greatest percentage of overnight stays by domestic visitors (Australians) in commercial accommodation at 23%, outstripping motels, hotels and resorts by a whopping 13%. Overnight stays with friends or relatives being the only category to outstrip caravan parks, with 34%. Guest Houses & B&Bs accounted for 9% and overnight stays at their own properties accounted for the remaining 20%. (Source:- 1999 National Visitor Survey, produced by Tourism Victoria).
Tandara Caravan Park, contributes a substantial benefit to the region's tourism, last year catering for 17,000 site nights, or around 51,000 bed nights.
