Westernport Water appoints Managing Director

WESTERNPORT Water Chairperson Pam Cameron has announced the appointment of power industry chief executive Murray Jackson as the corporation’s Managing Director.

By Susan Webster - 6th June 2008 - Back to News

Mr Jackson has had a long background in the utility industry, starting his engineering career in the Latrobe Valley and then in the Hunter Valley, before completing a term as Commissioner of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme.

In 1999 he moved to New Zealand to establish Genesis Energy, now New Zealand’s largest energy retailer with 700,000 gas and electricity customers, 2000 megawatts of power generation and significant upstream oil and gas investments.

Mr Jackson will move back from New Zealand on 1 September, 2008 to assume the position with the utility which manages water supply, effluent treatment and reuse, and gas reticulation to south-west Gippsland, one of Victoria’s fastest-growing rural communities.

He replaces David Mawer, who commenced as managing director of Gippsland Water in April.

Mrs Cameron said: "We are delighted with Mr Jackson’s appointment and believe it will boost Westernport Water’s technical and operational improvements of the past two years.

"In a field of outstanding candidates, Mr Jackson was most impressive and will bring international experience to our corporation.

"We are pleased that the reputation of Westernport Water attracted a candidate of such calibre," she said.
