Plumbing Apprentice Receives AwardGippsTAFE Plumbing Apprentice, Andrew Hooper, has been acknowledged for his efforts by Dux Hot Water Services with an award By GippsTAFE - 7th July 2003 - Back to News Dux Hot Water Services supports trade training and TAFE colleges all over GippsTAFE.
Gary Watts, Head of the Plumbing Department said that Andrew has been a model student.
"Andrew has completed three years of study without missing a day of trade school, and achieved very high results on the Advanced Sanitary/Drainage (Licence), Advanced Gasfitting (Licence) and journeymans exam" said Mr Watts.
"He also received the 2002 Best Stage 3 Apprentice for GippsTAFE and received the Rose Curtis Award at a Master Plumbers and Mechanical Services Association of Australia Ceremony."
The Rose Curtis Award recognises the new skills and technology of the Plumbing Industry and enables apprentices to further their study in specialised areas, namely the Advanced Certificate in Plumbing (Services Design or Supervision).
Mr Watts also thanked Andrew’s host employer, Mal Sloan, for his ongoing support of GippsTAFE and Andrew during his training.
"Mal has had Andrew under his wing for 3 1/2 years, and his support of trade training, off-the-job schooling and his mentoring has created a good relationship between us," said Mr Watts.
Ray Gair, State Manager for Victoria and Tasmania at Dux Hot Water presented Andrew with the award, which consisted of specialised Dux apparel that Andrew can wear at work.
Mr Gair, a former apprentice himself, expressed the need for high quality and quantity of apprentices due to the building boom in Australia.
He said that Andrew showed what great work GippsTAFE staff and employers are doing and said that Andrew had set a high standard for other Plumbing Apprentices in the area.
GippsTAFE’s Plumbing and Gasfitting Department is equipped to conduct simulated live work dealing with all facets of plumbing under the cover of one building.
The Plumbing Department can tailor a program to suit individual needs.
