Beautification works continue at Kernot LakeKernot Lake will be restored to its full glory in time for the warmer summer months. By Portal Admin - 9th December 2017 - Back to News Kernot Lake will be partly drained to allow for further beautification works to take place between now and the end of the year, weather permitting.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said the community would be able to enjoy seeing the fountain operational again.
"We have already completed the reconstruction of the weir wall and raised water levels and upgraded the water pump and pumping stations. We have removed reeds at the western end and installed new and refurbished seats and tables, and there is a gravel pathway with new plantings in the freshly mulched garden beds.
"When the lake is drained we will be able to upgrade the fountain head and finalise repairs so the fountain can be fully functional. Kernot Lake is one of our popular and most beautiful locations and attracts families and visitors for walks, play and picnics.
"As we would like the lake to refill naturally, we are waiting for a forecast of good rains to be able to start the work. Whilst we acknowledge that draining the lake may cause some inconvenience, it will only be for a short time and Kernot Lake will be restored to its full glory in time for the warmer summer months," Cr White concluded.
