China's top scientist to address Agribusiness ConferenceChina's top agricultural economist speaking on Nov. 8.
He is collaberating with the Australian Dairy Research and Development Corporation and ABARE that will have a major impact on the future of Australian Agribusiness in China.
By Geoffrey Kirton - 1st October 2005 - Back to News Gippsland Agribusiness Forums' Australia China Agribusiness Conference on November 8 has received a major boost with the addition of Dr Xiaohe Lui, China's top Agricultural Economist to speak .
Xiaohe Liu gained a Ph.D. degree from the University of Melbourne, major in the international trade theory and policies. In the University of Melbourne, his research focused on international trade policies, commodity markets, risk and uncertainty in trade, and modelling.
He did the research on the changing international wheat market with particular reference to trade between Australia and China.
In 2002, Dr. Liu joined the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IAE) at Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). He is responsible for managing the Centre for Agricultural Trade Policy Analysis (CATPA). Dr. Liu closely involves in a broad range of the research and analysis, including on the agricultural commodity markets, the SPS agreement and trade disputes, the potential preferential trade agreement in Northeast Asia, and trade liberalization.
Currently, he is undertaking the collaborative research on "IAE –ABARE Trade Modelling Exchange" program with Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE). He is also carrying our joint research of "A study of Consumer Demand for Dairy Products in China", sponsored by the Dairy Research and Development Corporation (DRDC), Australia.
