By Wellington Shire Council - 19th January 2007 - Back to News

Flag-raising ceremonies, sing-a-longs, live entertainment and BBQs have been organised across the shire and everyone is invited to enjoy the events.

"Australia Day is a significant date on the Australian calendar. It is a chance for communities to reflect on what it means to be an Australian. It is also a time to come together in celebration, to celebrate our communities and our country," said Mayor of Wellington Shire Council, Cr Beth Ripper.

"I would encourage all residents to enjoy these events"

Shire-wide and local Australia Day Awards will be presented, acknowledging the outstanding service and contributions provided by local individuals and community focused organisations.

Events are organised by various community groups.

"I would extend our thanks to all those who have organised these events. These groups are a wonderful example of what Australia Day is all about," said Cr Ripper.

A complete list of events being held in the Shire is available on the Council’s website, www.wellington.vic.gov.au or by telephoning 1300 366 244.
