Christopher Gray Artist Talk And Exhibition At GalleryChristopher Gray will be giving an artist’s talk on Thursday 22 November at 1.30pm at the Latrobe Regional Gallery in Morwell. By Latrobe City - 16th November 2007 - Back to News Christopher ‘Chippo’ Gray is a local artist who has been producing work for more than 40 years.
His new exhibition ‘To Review – To Envisage’, is showing at the Latrobe Regional Gallery from Friday 16 November, and features his memorable ‘sqounds’ created from square and round forms.
Latrobe City’s arts director, Jacqui Hemsley said that Christopher Gray undertook postgraduate studies at Monash Gippsland and has lived locally for the past 25 years. His work is included in private and public collections nationally and internationally.
"This is his first solo exhibition since 2000, which includes paintings and drawings spanning his career from the 1970s to the present. Christopher is keen to share his art with everyone regardless of their level of artistic appreciation.
Christopher Gray said his art is an offering of his discoveries and knowledge - "from the inside out, from my deepest depth of soul. My paintings are simple, humble and honest. They are made up of the complexity of my life’s experience."
Ms Hemsley added that this exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to view the works of a celebrated local artist.
"The work on display in this exhibition reveals the soul of the artist and the viewer gets an insight into the emotional nature of life. The opportunity to hear Chris discuss his work, shouldn’t be missed," Ms Hemsley concluded.
Admission to the artist talk on 22 November is $5, students and concession card holders $3, and free for Gallery Friends. Tea and coffee will be served from 1pm.
Latrobe Regional Gallery is located at 138 Commercial Road, Morwell, and is open Monday to Friday 10am-5pm, and on weekends 11am–4pm. The gallery is closed public holidays. Entry is free.
