Hazelwood Mine Fire responseHazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry Report Implementation and Monitoring Plan with comments from Member for Morwell Russell Northe By news@gippsland - 19th April 2016 - Back to News It was the Coalition Government that established and conducted a detailed inquiry into the Hazelwood incident.
The Coalition supported the recommendations of the review – see statement from the Deputy Premier Peter Ryan (2 September 2014) here.The Coalition immediately set about implementing the recommendations from the inquiry.
The Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry Report Implementation and Monitoring Plan set out the recommendations, actions completed and further actions to be carried out. The report is here.In November 2014, the Coalition also commissioned a 20-year health study into the Hazelwood mine, led by Monash University researchers. Additional actions to protect the community included:
Established a new Latrobe City CFA District to enhance the CFA’s ability to work industry / community and build the CFA’s capability to respond to future fires/ risksSet up a new Coal Mine Emergency Management Taskforce – details hereImproved air quality monitoring in the Morwell region by the EPA.Comments from Member for Morwell Russell Northe:"Today’s response builds on extensive work by the Liberal-Nationals to ensure the Latrobe Valley does not experience an event like this again."I will be holding the Andrews Government to account to make sure they deliver on each of their commitments to the community.
