Education Award for Fashion Teacher

The award was given to Mrs Medew in recognition of her valued contribution to the quality of education in the Gippsland region

By GippsTAFE - 19th March 2002 - Back to News

Kath Medew, Coordinator of GippsTAFE’s Fashion, Clothing and Textiles Department, has recently received a Gippsland Education Service Award from the Australian College of Education, Gippsland Group.

The award was given to Mrs Medew in recognition of her valued contribution to the quality of education in the Gippsland region, working tirelessly to develop long-term relationships with industry and with colleagues in the Vocational Education and Training Sector locally, state wide and in the international arena.

In 2000, Mrs Medew joined a team to investigate training partnerships with Chinese Vocational Colleges.

After discussions with Xingtai Vocational and Technical College in Central China, a formal agreement was reached to develop the joint delivery of the Australian Diploma of Clothing Production.

Chinese students will complete their pre-requisite studies for the first year of the Diploma at Xingtai, and then complete their studies over 12 months at the Morwell Campus of GippsTAFE.

To do this Mrs Medew developed a strong professional relationship with colleagues in China and made two fourteen-day working visits to Xingtai College in 2001.

The GippsTAFE Fashion, Clothing and Textiles Department looks forward to the first intake of 20 students from Xingtai in 2003.
