Plenty to entertain over the Labor Day holiday weekend

Wellington Shire is preparing for a fun-packed Labor Day holiday weekend (6 to 8 March) with a host of events geared at the whole family.

Highlights include -

Saturday 6 March

· Sentosa Game Fair, Sentosa Game Resort, Signboard Lane, Dutson – starts at 10.00am, and includes dog retrieving and clay target shooting. Admission is free. Website: www.sentosa.com.au

· Maffra Mardi Gras, Johnson Street Maffra – starts at 6.00pm.

Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 March

· Marlay Point Overnight Yacht Race, Marlay Point – starts at 6.00pm on the Saturday and is the largest trailerable yacht race in the southern hemisphere. Website: www.yachtingvictoria.com.au

· 20th Annual Tractor Pull, Recreation Reserve, Longford - the biggest vintage tractor pull in Australia, it runs from 7.00pm on Saturday and from 10.00am to 4.30pm on Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 16 years and concessions, and free for those under 12 years.

Sunday 7 March

· Ragus traditional Irish music and dance spectacular at the Esso BHP Billiton Wellington Entertainment Centre in Sale – starts at 2.30pm and 8.00pm. Admission is $49.80, or $44.80 for concessions, children and group bookings.

· 9th Annual Wellington Bush Racing Carnival, Briagolong Recreation Reserve – races commence at 12.00 noon. Features horse races, dog high jump, fox terrier race, ferret races, dog hurdles, an animal farm, live band and jumping castle. Admission is $10 for adults, $25 for families and $6 for concessions.

· Mud Drag Racing, Alberton West near Yarram – round nine of Mud Wars. Runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Admission is $12 for adults and free for those under 13 years. Website: www.a4wdmra.com.au

· Public visitor day at the Robotic Dairy, Winnindoo – runs from 10.00am to 3.00pm. See the amazing robots milk cows and explore the history of the dairy industry. Admission $5, and free to children under 12 years.

Monday 8 March

· Tarra Bulga National Park Heritage Picnic Day, Visitors’ Centre, Balook – celebrates the park’s centenary and starts at 10.00am.

Said Wellington’s Mayor John Jago: "With such a wide variety of events offered across Wellington over the Labor Day weekend there will be plenty to keep everyone entertained, whatever their age or interests."
