Feedback wanted on Baw Baw Shire Council roadside and footpath trading policy
Baw Baw Shire Council is undertaking a review of its Roadside and Footpath Trading Policy.
Community members and business operators are invited to read, review, and provide their input as part of the Policy review process. The Roadside and Footpath Trading Policy considers the needs of motorists, pedestrians, people with a disability, and footpath use in relation to roadside trading, advertising, merchandise displays and kerbside dining.
Your feedback is highly valued, it helps council to understand what our community wants so we can set the right priorities and future directions as a council
Review to ensure objectives
It aims to provide a balance between the economic and community benefits that roadside and footpath trading brings to towns and villages, and the legislative requirements of Council to enhance accessibility and protect the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
The review aims to ensure that the Policy remains current and consistent with its objectives, identify any emerging issues or potential improvements, and ensure that the Policy is easily understandable and enforceable.
Interested community members can view the Roadside and Footpath Trading Policy and have their say on Council's website by visiting roadside and footpath trading policy feedback . All feedback provided on the Policy will be considered throughout the review process and any resulting amendments. This consultation opportunity is open until Friday 10 September.
Economic and social will benefit
Mayor Cr Danny Goss said, "We know the benefits, both economic and socially, that roadside and footpath trading brings to towns right across Baw Baw Shire. Without unduly limiting our businesses, Council has a duty to keep the safety of our community members front-of-mind.
That's why it's so important that we have a Policy in place that brings these two elements together, and that's what this Policy review aims to do. It doesn't matter if you're a business owner or a customer, this Policy affects you, so I encourage everyone to take part in this review and have your say."
