Update On Bogong (South) Complex Fire

Of the four new fires reported yesterday, two are still going and two have been contained

By DSE/CFA - 10th February 2003 - Back to News

Of the four new fires reported yesterday, two are still going and two have been contained. The fire 20kms north of Cann River, just east of Chandlers Creek has reached 200 hectares and is causing concern.

A rappel crew is being dispatched to the other going fire, 15kms south east of Goongerah on Mount Ellery, with plans to walk crews in if the weather halts attack from the air.

Residents in these areas have been warned to expect ash and possibly embers over the next few days.

Fire crews are continuing to mop up and patrol in the McKillops Bridge area, while in the Buchan Valley and Gelantipy areas, the fire remains inside control lines and is being monitored and patrolled.

Consolidation of the southern containment line of the main Bogong Complex fire continues. Cooler weather conditions have allowed crews to gain control over most spotovers in the Swifts Creek area. Backburning, patrolling and blacking out will be undertaken at the Nunniong, Mt Stawell and Bindi sectors to secure all containment lines ahead of hotter weather expected by the middle of the week.

Dozer work on fallback lines continues in the Dargo area, but otherwise fire behaviour here has been quiet overnight.
