Bass Coast Visitor Information Centres Search For Volunteers

Help visitors while learning new skills and meeting new people

By Carol McCormack - 30th July 2002 - Back to News

Are you looking for a new challenge? Keen to learn more about the Bass Coast and the South Gippsland regions? Do you enjoy meeting and helping people?

If this sounds like you, why not volunteer at any of the three Visitor Information Centre in Bass Coast Shire? You’ll be helping visitors to the area while learning new skills and meeting new people.

Peter Francis, Visitor Services Manager with Bass Coast Shire Council, said that volunteers are needed at the Inverloch, Wonthaggi and Newhaven Information Centres.

"We’re looking for people to volunteer at the centres and join our dedicated team of volunteers," said Peter. "Volunteers are essential in making the centres run smoothly and providing a top quality service to visitors."

All volunteers at the centres receive initial and on-going training. The primary role of volunteers is to provide information about attractions and accommodation to visitors.

"It’s an interesting and varied role because you never know who you will encounter each day, and what questions they will be asking," said Peter. "Since January this year more than 80,000 visitors from throughout the world have passed through the Phillip Island Information Centre alone."

For more information about volunteering at the Information Centres, contact Peter Francis on 5956 7447 or Lori Worthy on 5671 2444.
