Forum for health and wellbeing agencies in Latrobe CityBy Latrobe City Council - 5th October 2005 - Back to News Latrobe City’s health and wellbeing agencies are joining forces at a forum to develop a collaborative approach to planning and to provide greater co-ordination of their roles within the community in order to build a sustainable response to local health and wellbeing.
The forum, to be held at the Italian Australian Club in Morwell on 25 and 26 October is being funded by the Department for Victorian Communities, through the Community Support Fund, with contributions from Latrobe City Council and the Central West Gippsland Primary Care Partnership.
Latrobe City’s General Manager, City Services, Peggy Stevenson said that the ‘Getting It Together’ forum would benefit both the local community’s agencies and residents by establishing better interagency relationships.
"In 2003, Latrobe City developed a Community Plan to focus on health and wellbeing in the future, and this forum was an identified action in that plan.
"At the moment, many agencies in the same field operate in isolation. The forum aims to provide an opportunity for agencies to come together, discuss their roles within the community and plan a framework model to maximise use of available resources for both community and agency benefit," Ms Stevenson explained.
"Latrobe City has contracted i-GAIN Quality Learning Inc to organise the forum, and agencies such as Latrobe Information and Support Centre and the Latrobe Community Health Service, amongst others, will be involved." Ms Stevenson added.
"This is a great opportunity to bring together the community’s health and wellbeing resources to ensure seamless provision of services and sharing of knowledge, as well as this model possibly being applied to other communities and municipalities," Ms Stevenson concluded.
