Candowie dive team gives underwater overviewA four-man diver team went into the depths of Candowie Reservoir on Thursday, doing an underwater survey as part of regular maintenance. By Susan Webster - 5th October 2007 - Back to News The specialist divers examined structures in the reservoir, including the valves from the take-off tower.
Westernport Water’s Managing Director David Mawer said: "These valves regulate water flow from various depths in the reservoir and are adjusted as the reservoir level rises and falls. They are fundamental equipment and we have to ensure that they continue to operate efficiently."
The divers also inspected inside the large concrete tanks that form part of the water treatment plant located at the reservoir.
Mr Mawer explained: "Making sure that all parts of the treatment plant are in good condition is an important part of maintaining water quality. This regular check-up is a very simple and cost-effective way of ensuring the system is running smoothly."
The team took video footage of its underwater inspections, enabling engineers at the water authority to study the reservoir’s infrastructure in detail.
Diver Danny Dorman said: "It’s all looking pretty good down there, but we failed to find the Candowie monster … nah, just joking!"
