Recycle Your E-waste

You can now recycle your e-waste at one of Bass Coast Shire Council’s Transfer Stations or landfill sites. E-waste refers to almost all types of electronic equipment such as computers, televisions, laptops and printers.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Waste Manager, David Owen, said e-waste is one of the fastest growing types of residential and business waste. "People don’t often think about where all the old TV monitors or lap tops go when they are purchasing new electrical gadgets and computer upgrades. "Almost 98 per cent of most e-waste is recyclable when you pull apart the small electrical components and the plastic casing. "This new service will allow people to dispose of old electrical equipment responsibly," said Mr Owen.

Council’s Waste Services Team and Wonthaggi Recyclers have been working at getting the e-waste recycling up and running. All e-waste that has been deposited at Waste Transfer Stations over the last few months has been separated and will go to suitable recyclers.

Mr Owen explained that e-waste will go to the Lifeline Gippsland E-waste Processing Facility, so they will also benefit from being a part of the recycle chain. "E-waste is just one of the growing types of material that we now recycle. "Mattress recycling is also underway with Dreamsafe doing regular pick-ups at Wonthaggi and Grantville Transfer Stations," said Mr Owen.

Fees for recycling of e-waste, mattresses or other items can be found on Council’s website or by contacting Bass Coast Shire Council on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
