Dr Ron Gallagher, Research & Development Director, Lonely Planet Publications will be presenting the Humanities, Communications & Social Sciences research seminars on Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 19. On Monday, Dr Gallagher presents ‘University-Industry Research Partnerships and Grants’ and gives an overview of the grant getting and industry collaboration process from a Lonely Planet perspective. On Tuesday, Dr Gallagher will present ‘Interpreting Pictures’ and how his work explores the philosophical implications of work in vision research and the growing body of evidence that interpreting pictures has more in common with natural visual recognition than it has with a language. Making the GradeThe School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences (HUMCASS) 2005 Annual Awards will be held on Tuesday, April 12 at the Gippsland Campus. The evening will celebrate the outstanding achievement of HUMCASS students studying a range of degrees both on and off campus. Awards to be presented include the Pro Vice Chancellor’s Community Service Award, Head of School’s Award and the Mollie Holman Medal for an outstanding PhD thesis.
