Shane Elson will be guest speaker at the Lionel Murphy Memorial Lecture to be held on Tuesday, October 25 from 7.30pm at Ninde dana Quarenook in Morwell. Shane, a graduate of Monash University will speak on ‘Recovering the Human in the 21st Century’. Shane will discuss how we inject real people back into the public sphere and allow their voices to be heard.

The ‘Young Drivers Safety and Graduated Licensing Discussion Paper’ information session hosted by Vic Roads will be held at the Gippsland Campus on Wednesday, October 26 from 4.30-6pm in room 4N120. The paper has been prepared to raise awareness of the safety issues facing young drivers and to encourage Victorians to contribute to improving their safety.

Making the Grade

The National Council of the History Teachers’ Association Australia recently endorsed the National Professional Standards for the Teaching of History. The standards were tabled by a Monash research team. The draft standards were drawn up with the help of focus group meetings which comprised primary and secondary schools, early-career teachers, mid-career teachers and experienced teachers from both private and government systems. This is an important step for teachers of history who now have a set of professional expectations.

Ms Jenny Jelbart is the newly appointed Deputy CEO at the Australian Sustainable Industry Research Centre (ASIRC) located at the Gippsland Campus. Jenny, a Monash University Graduate with 15 years experience within Gippsland Water, brings a combination of academic and practical know how in a range of disciplines into a research based organisation. ASIRC operates a large analytical laboratory that assists industry solve problems and improve sustainability.

Students at the Gippsland Campus will begin their examinations this week. Their final week of classes finished on Friday.
