Tourism Workshop To Focus On International MarketA full day workshop designed for tourism operators wanting to attract international visitors is to be held at Metung on 30 May. By East Gippsland Shire Council - 10th May 2006 - Back to News Called the "Gippsland International Visitor Workshop 2006" it will be held at The Moorings conference centre.
East Gippsland Shire’s economic development tourism coordinator Phil Rickards said the event was a must for anyone whose business had the potential to attract overseas tourists.
Mr Rickards said that much of the growth in visitor spending in the short term will come from international tourists.
"The object of this event is to ensure destinations in East Gippsland are on the international list of places to visit and also that local operators have the opportunity to learn about both the benefits and potential pitfalls of being involved in international tourism," he said.
"Successful operator of the Walhalla’s Star Hotel, Michael Leany will present what promises to be a particularly interesting session about how and why he markets his facility globally.
"The workshop, to be held under the auspices of Destination Gippsland and Tourism Victoria, will also hear from Ms Kristina Drapes about the Sydney-Melbourne coastal drive and the potential it offers tourism operators."
Mr Rickards said that Tourism Victoria would host sessions relating to the current levels of international visitation and ‘How to get your name in print.’
"It will be a worthwhile event for those wishing to grow their businesses using the international market," he said.
Mr Rickards said attendance costs only $25.00 including lunch and that places were strictly limited. Further information can be obtained by contacting him at the Shire, or direct bookings made by contacting Destination Gippsland
