Arnold Street To Be ReconstructedA section of Arnold Street in Orbost is to be constructed and sealed following a decision by East Gippsland Councillors. By East Gippsland Shire Council - 9th February 2007 - Back to News At their meeting this week Councillors approved a tender submitted by East Gippsland Road Maintenance Pty Ltd for the works that include the construction of the roadway section between Stanley Street and Boundary Road and the removal of a tree.
Arnold Street has been a concern for a number of years with through traffic using the Sports Centre’s car park causing safety issues for pedestrians and vehicles.
In October 2004 Council endorsed the closure of Arnold Street at Boundary Road. Following a public meeting in March 2005 speed bumps were installed pending the construction works that has now been included in the 2006/2007 Roads to Recovery (R2R) program.
Shire acting manager Infrastructure Gordon Charles said work was likely to start by the end of this month with completion in May
Council will now negotiate with Orbost Regional Health regarding the construction of additional parking areas in the vicinity of the road works and also assist pursuing proposals for expanded aged care facilities for the region.
