Bass Coast Local News:

International Womenís Day at Cape Kitchen

By Portal Admin - 4th March 2018 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Councilís Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, is delighted to announce an upcoming breakfast to celebrate International Womenís Day. The breakfast will be held at Cape Kitchen, a major sponsor of the event, on Thursday 8 March.

International Womenís Day is globally recognised as a reminder to pursue strong advocacy, activism and support for gender equality.

Council is a leader and advocate for achieving womenís equality. In 2016 it was the first local organisation to achieve White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation, followed by Phillip Nature Parks and Westernport Water.

Cr Rothfield is proud of Councilís role in raising awareness about menís violence against women, with their participation in the White Ribbon campaign.

"Bass Coast Shire Council has put in place policies, programs and supports for staff that attempt to reduce violence in the community and that acknowledge impacts family violence has on employees," Cr Rothfield said.

Local woman, Joanne Hakanson, will speak at the International Womenís Day Breakfast at Cape Kitchen. Joanne is the Manager of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre, Cancer Clinical Trials Unit at The Austin Hospital. She is held in high respect and professional regard internationally.

Joanne is dedicated to the discovery and development of cancer research breakthroughs that will improve health outcomes for patients.

"Almost every cancer treatment in the world today has come about because of learnings and advancements made through clinical trials," Mrs Hakanson said.

Cr Rothfield met with Joanne last week to plan the event and is looking forward to Joanne sharing her story at the breakfast.

"Joanne is a passionate, warm and engaging presenter who will make you laugh and cry when she shares her story," Cr Rothfield said.
