Jamie’s Ministry Of Food Mobile Kitchen Arrives In Latrobe  Jamie’S Ministry Of Food Making its new home next to Traralgon Service Centre and Library, Jamie’s Ministry of Food Mobile Kitchen, will begin classes on Monday 16th September 2013, By Latrobe City - 31st July 2013 - Back to News delivering a 5-week cooking course to residents of Latrobe City Council.
As part of the Healthy Together Latrobe initiative, residents will have the opportunity to access and participate in an innovative, community based cooking program built on Jamie’s beliefs about cooking and the associated impact on healthy living.
Mayor Cr Sandy Kam said, "We are delighted to be hosting Jamie’s Ministry of Food Mobile Kitchen in Latrobe City. This is a fantastic opportunity for participants to learn to cook, to understand the importance of preparing healthy, nutritious meals and to realise that this does not mean complicated, expensive recipes. I look forward to seeing participants share their new skills and excitement for good food with their friends and families. We are ready to embrace this program as proof of how much fun it can be to live a healthy lifestyle in Latrobe. "
Ben Leigh, Chief Executive Officer of Latrobe Community Health Service, said, "Good food can help prevent a lot of common diseases like diabetes and heart problems. This event will be a great trigger for Latrobe residents to reconnect with the food they eat and how they prepare it. It will also lead many others to think about the food and lifestyle changes needed to ensure health benefits continue into the future."
The Mobile program offers a five-week cooking course, comprised of one 90-minute cooking class per week with up to 12 participants in each class. The Mobile Kitchen will be open 7-days a week, with the hands on classes led by a team of dedicated Jamie’s Ministry of Food Trainers.
"We know we’ll have a great response from the residents of Latrobe City Council because our past participants have confirmed that learning to cook from scratch in a fun environment has changed their lives. By teaching basic cooking skills Jamie’s Ministry of Food helps people gain confidence in the kitchen which leads to better food and ultimately better health." stated Jamie’s Ministry of Food Australia, CEO, Alicia Peardon.
Classes cost $10 per session and $5 for concession. Bookings open to Latrobe City Council residents on Monday 12th August and can be booked through www.jamiesministryoffood.com. Whilst over 500 participants will have the opportunity to take part in the course over this time, Healthy Together Latrobe will deliver a range of activities that support and showcase healthy active lifestyles in our community.
The Good Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation who has partnered with Jamie Oliver and Electrical Retailer, The Good Guys to deliver Jamie’s Ministry of Food throughout Australia.
The Victorian Government has committed funding of $2.87 million to The Good Foundation to support the delivery of the Program in Victoria. Jamie’s Ministry of Food is part of Healthy Together Victoria, a jointly funded initiative of the State Government of Victoria and the Australian Government.
