Walking School CelebrationSanta made a special visit to help the Wellington Shire Council’s Walking School Bus participants celebrate the end of a successful year. By Wellington Shire Council - 12th December 2006 - Back to News Approximately 100 children and adults were able to enjoy a BBQ, the jumping castle, a visit from VicRoads road safety mascot Thingle Toodle as well as a visit from Santa Claus at the Apex Park, Stratford.
The Walking School Bus provides children with an opportunity to walk to school in a fun, safe and supervised environment.
Renee Heath, Wellington Shire Council’s Walking School Bus Project Coordinator said "The Christmas Party is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the success of the Walking School Bus program, but more importantly, it is also a great opportunity to recognise the amazing work of the volunteers who have made it all happen!"
"The volunteers are the key to the success of the program" she said.
Volunteer ‘drivers’ for the Walking School Bus pick up students along a designated route.
"The volunteers have all done a magnificent job - these are the type of people who make Wellington a great place to live" she said.
The volunteers and coordinators were presented with gifts and certificates of appreciation to recognise their fantastic contribution throughout the year.
