Tafe Art Exhibition A Success

GippsTAFE’s annual Student Arts Exhibition has again proved a success, with some students even picking up commissions for future work from impressed visitors.

The exhibition, held at the Art Resource Collective (ARC) in Yinnar, attracted a regular flow of people each day, most of who were positive about the work.

Some of the comments in the visitors’ book included, "fantastic display, great variety of work," "wonderful work", and "fantastic and fun."

GippsTAFE’s Head of Art, Design and Multimedia, Gary Dunbier, said the exhibition was an opportunity for students to test their work in the public arena.

"The response was really positive and I’m sure the students learned a lot from having their work exposed to the public," he said. "It’s interesting to see the reaction from people outside the program and from other artists, many of whom visited the exhibition."

Mr Dunbier said the fact that a couple of students had received small commissions of future work was also exciting and encouraging.

"It shows that our students are on the right track to develop a market and possibly a career from their studies."

The exhibition was a showcase for the 2004 graduating students who are going to apply at Monash Gippsland, and included ceramics, visual art, graphic design and multimedia.

"The TAFE course is clearly an excellent step along the pathway to further development of individual’s skills," Mr Dunbier added.
