Business birthday celebrated with styleOver 600 people recently attended the 125th anniversary celebrations at the Morwell branch of Blackwoods, the long-established engineering and industrial supplier. By Latrobe City Council - 31st October 2003 - Back to News To herald the anniversary, the Morwell branch held a trade expo at Kernot Hall featuring displays from over 70 companies who supply Blackwoods outlets.
Blackwoods Morwell branch manager, Geoff Coulter, said that the expo, as well as the birthday, was a huge success.
"The Morwell outlet services all Gippsland and is seen as a flagship branch. It was established in 1988 and the large number of people who attended our expo is testimony to our standing throughout the region," Mr Coulter explained.
Latrobe City Investment Manager, Leo Billington said that the trade expo was significant for Latrobe City because it represented the coming together of a wide range of top Australian companies who were able to learn more about the municipality.
"For instance, included among the exhibitors were Stanley/Sidchrome Tools, Bostich, Cooper Tools, Goodyear, Carter Holt Harvey, Spitwater and Sutton Tools. These are all major organisations that do business in our region," Mr Billington said.
A feature of the expo was the traditional cutting of a massive birthday cake. In thanking the audience, Mr Coulter said the wide range of suppliers and clients had, together, maintained their strong support for the Morwell store over a long period of time.
"We owe these people our gratitude since they have ensured our market position here and elsewhere. We also acknowledge Latrobe City for their sponsorship of the expo. Morwell is a strategic central location for our Gippsland base enabling us to service all clients very effectively," Mr Coulter added.
Founded in Sydney on 24 October 1878, Blackwoods Australia-wide birthday festivities, will conclude with a finale in Sydney in December.
