Boys Get Emotional with The Man CaveThe Man Cave: empower boys to become great men. By Portal Admin - 12th November 2019 - Back to News Wonthaggi Secondary College’s Year 11 boys are feeling better equipped to talk about their emotions, following a recent workshop with The Man Cave.
The Man Cave is a preventative mental health and emotional intelligence program for boys, young men, parents and teachers.
The aim of the Program is to empower boys to become great men, by providing them and their communities with impactful programs, role models and resources.
This is the second year Bass Coast Shire Council has contributed funding to run this program in local schools - in 2018, Newhaven College hosted a workshop.
The Program was initiated as a response to the results of the State Government’s Resilient Youth Survey, which highlighted opportunities to work with young men to build self-esteem, develop emotional and social intelligence, increase mental and physical wellbeing, build resilience and ultimately, help our boys and young men lead a life of connection, purpose and positive impact.
Following the workshop at Wonthaggi Secondary College, 91 percent of the participants said they felt better equipped to talk about their emotions with others, while 97 per cent felt they better understood the negative impacts of not talking about their emotions and the pressures that men face in society.
One student said after the workshop, "It has made me want to set some goals in my life and make sure I live as happy as possible."
Another remarked, "Everyone’s their own person and I shouldn't feel embarrassed or ashamed to be me."
