Change of Preference Week occurs next week and staff from the Gippsland Education Precinct (GEP) will be available to assist students with important information about alternative pathways programs that provide not only entry to Monash courses but may also provide credit towards a Monash Gippsland degree. To assist students with their decisions, an interactive CD Rom called GEP‘Your Pathway Guide’ will be available that outlines the many courses and pathways available across the GEP partners, including credit transfer arrangements. Staff from the GEP, Monash Gippsland and GippsTAFE will provide advice to students at the Monash University Change of Preference Information Session from 3-6pm on Tuesday, December 14, in the Business and Economics Conference Room at the Monash University Gippsland campus.

Year 12 students are reminded that applications for the Monash Gippsland Internship Program 2005 close this week. This program links high-achieving VCE students with local employers to give students work experience and rewarding employment and at the same time keeping high-achievers in Gippsland. Local businesses sponsoring students for the 2005 Internships Program are Australian Securities & Investments Commission, Australian Sustainable Industry Research Centre, Bass Coast Shire Council, Energy Brix Australia, GHD, Gippsland Water, Hydro Australia, Latrobe City Council, Latrobe Personnel, MECU, Sage Technology, Wellington Shire Council, Vic Roads, SGS Environmental Services & International Power Hazelwood.

Making the Grade

The Monash Prize for high achieving Year 11 students is currently being presented at secondary schools around Gippsland. Ms Molly Burley, School of Rural Health, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences will be presenting the award to Peter Woodhouse from Catholic College Sale this week.

Professor Martin Hooper, School of Applied Sciences & Engineering at the Gippsland Campus returned from Thailand last week where he attended the Sustainable Energy & Environment Conference. Professor Hooper also visited a number of university groups interested in the development of subjects in environmental chemistry for science teachers and engineers.

Mr Ray Beebe, School of Applied Sciences & Engineering at the Gippsland Campus will be among the speakers at the International Maintenance Conference in Florida. Ray will be promoting collaborative postgraduate programs with the University of Tennessee. Ray was also recently awarded the Sir George Julius Medal by Engineers Australia for his book in the field of mechanical engineering.
