Gippsland Campus Nursing staff will be showcasing their research achievements to all Gippsland Directors of Nursing and other healthcare clinical partners at a research ‘Show and Tell’ on Tuesday June 7.

Gippsland Centre for Art & Design, Masters student, Susan McLean has been invited to present a paper at the World Batik Conference in Boston, USA from June 7 to 15. Ms McLean’s paper, ‘Indigenous Batik from Australia’ provides an informed perspective on Indigenous art and connection to country and The Dreaming, with particular reference to the Papunya, Ernabella and Utopia communities.

Ray Beebe, Lecturer, School of Applied Science & Engineering presented two papers at the International Conference of Maintenance Societies in Hobart last week as well as attending meetings as National Councillor for the Maintenance Engineering Society Australia. Next week Ray will be one of three leading figures at the International Conference of Pump Users in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Making the Grade

A Student Awards Presentation evening will be held at the Gippsland Campus on Thursday, June 2. A total of 48 awards will be presented by academic staff and industry representatives with scholarships from the Campus overall and the Schools of Computing and Applied Sciences and Engineering.

Approximately 160 Year 10 students from Luther College visited the Gippsland Campus last week. Students participated in interactive activities provided by the eight faculties represented on campus and a tour led by current Monash University students.

Open Subject

At the Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) Annual Fundraising Dinner Dance and Auction last week, Professor Brian Mackenzie, Pro Vice Chancellor Gippsland, presented LRH with a donation of $5,000 towards the new Cancer Care Centre. The Gippsland Campus was a gold sponsor at the event in conjunction with the School of Nursing, School of Rural Health and the Pro Vice Chancellors Office.

In the recently published Regional Undergraduate and Postgraduate Education Demand Report various professional workplace shortages were indicated. In the field of business, areas of shortages and good employment prospects in the coming years include Accountants, Legal professionals, Human Resources, Marketing, Urban and Regional planners, Valuers and Land Economists and Policy Analysts.
