Monash University Weekly Bulletin

Students and academics from the Tokyo National Centre of Technology (TNCT) will be visiting the Gippsland Campus from March 21-27. Monash University and the TNCT have had a student exchange program between institutions for more than 20 years. The group will be billeting with staff and members of the local community and have a variety of activities planned for the week including touring the Gippsland Campus, GippsTAFE, PowerWorks and field trips to Phillip Island, Mornington Peninsula and Melbourne.

‘"..revolutionising the way we teach First Year Education students, focussing on how to integrate teaching, research and scholarship" is the title of the Faculty of Education Research Seminar to be presented by Associate Professor Lindsay Fitzclarence and Dr Scott Webster at the Gippsland Campus on Wednesday, March 23.

Making the Grade

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the Gippsland Campus began an overhaul of the network infrastructure across the campus over the summer period. The $1million project involves a full replacement of the existing data network that will offer network speeds within the Campus up to 100-times faster than previous transmissions. Hardwired data and telephone network services are being rolled out to all the bedrooms in the student residences making them the first and only Monash campus with wireless as well as wired data network services throughout the residence complex.

Monash University Lectures Online is expanding through a joint project by the Library and Information Technology Services and will see an extra eight lectures theatres at the Gippsland Campus turned on progressively throughout 2005 as staffing becomes available and equipment is fully tested. Lectures Online is a library service that audio records and digitises lectures for online access.

Latrobe City will be hosting ‘International Education Week’ from March 14-20. A highlight of the weeks’ events will be a function at the Century Inn to welcome international students at local secondary schools, TAFE and Monash University Gippsland Campus.

To date the Gippsland Campus Housing Officer has housed 111 students/staff in a variety of housing environments around the Latrobe City region. Housing includes Ministry of Housing units, board with staff/other students/community members and rental properties.
