Kinder Enrolments Closing SoonKinders can now take a virtual tour to replace open days and to comply with social distancing restrictions. By Portal Admin - 15th June 2020 - Back to News On-time enrolments for Latrobe City Council’s four-year-old kinder program for 2021 are closing on 30 June. And parents wondering about our kinders, can now take a virtual tour which replaces our open days and complies with social distancing restrictions.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dan Clancey, said the benefits of kinder were significant.
"Social and literacy skills are important foundations on which to build a young child’s learning future. Our four-year-old kindergarten program is delivered by qualified early childhood professionals who help children understand about themselves and others, their surroundings and community, through play," Cr Clancey said.
"The program develops emotional and self-awareness, language, literacy and numeracy skills, exposes children to new ideas and concepts, as well as helping them navigate the world of friendships, sharing and structured learning.
"You can now take a virtual stroll through any of our 24 preschools and get a taste of what your child might experience. These online tours have replaced our usual face-to-face open days, due to COVID-19 restrictions, but they still offer a visual to help families make a choice."
Cr Clancey said that enrolments close at the end of June and strongly encourages families to consider sending their children to kinder. "It’s a year of play-based fun and provides a solid groundwork for entry into primary school," Cr Clancey said.
Children who turn four before 30 April 2021 are eligible for kindergarten, all enrolments are online and on-time applications are prioritised. Session days and times are based on enrolment numbers and service capacity. Letters of offer are received in August. Placements for late enrolments are offered in order of receipt of application and where places remain.
