Learn how people are getting more done with their time

By Julina King - 4th February 2004 - Back to News

According to Time Management trainer Joe Young, knowing how to put your priorities in order is a vital skill for people living in rural areas.

"Prioritising allows us to identify the jobs that are important before they become urgent and consequently stressful. The increase of stress related illness highlights the importance of effectively managing our time," he said.

"Stress comes from feeling out of control. In tough seasonal conditions, it is even more important to feel in control of the events in your life, so that you reduce stress. Time management is stress management," said Mr Young.

Joe Young is a trainer with Training Improvements, an organisation providing regional and rural communities with techniques to become more effective. "Time is a business’ most precious commodity in all businesses. Once it’s gone there is no getting it back," he said.

"The trick with time management is to decide what is not going to get done for the day and avoid being distracted from the important tasks," said Mr Young.

"Time management techniques help you achieve the optimum balance between your work and private life."

A Time Matters 1-day training course will be run in Traralgon on the February 18 and again in Warragul on March 23. The workshop will cover how to plan daily work routines more effectively; establishing a system for weekly and monthly planning; identifying time wasters with appropriate solutions; setting and achieving goals; and implementing a plan of action to make use of good time management techniques and ideas.
