May 24 – School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences Awards Night. Students from across all School disciplines and year levels will be honoured during the evening. Sixty awards are being presented, including awards for off campus students, academic excellence and excellence in first year. Sponsors for the evening include Anglicare Gippsland, Department of Human Services, Noweyung Centre, Needham PR/LV Printers, Gippsland Area Consultative Committee, Spotless Education Services, GEO Group Australia Pty Ltd - Fulham Correctional Centre and Monash University. The evening is open to the public and will run from 6.30pm with light refreshments provided.
May 24 – School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences Forum. Dr. Andrew Gunstone will present his paper 1967-2007: 40 Years of Commonwealth Government Policies on Indigenous Affairs. Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the 1967 Commonwealth Referendum, the paper will analyse the 40 years of Commonwealth Government Policies in Indigenous Affairs and suggest a new approach to Indigenous Affairs.
May 25 – School of Applied Sciences and Engineering Seminar. Research by Josephine MacHunter, being conducted through Monash University and Arthur Rylah Institute (DSE) involves carrying out bird and vegetation surveys to explore how the abundance and diversity of bird species is related to habitat fragmentation caused by clearing, grazing, altered fire regimes and urbanisation. The results from this research may be used in landscape planning, such as Landcare, to assist in targeting restoration efforts towards conservation of bird diversity.
Four staff from the Gippsland Campus will be presented with 25 Year Service Medals at a special ceremony to be held at the Clayton Campus on Thursday, May 24.
