Cowes Forums Successful

Regular community forums for you to have your say

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 13th May 2002 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council holds regular Community Forums around the Shire on the second Wednesday of every second month.

On the evening of Wednesday, 8 May 2002 a Community Forum was held at the Cowes Cultural Centre.

Earlier that day Council held a forum that focussed on roads and local infrastructure on Phillip Island. Approximately 30 members of the public came along to the roads and infrastructure forum. They had the opportunity to look at displays on Council initiatives and services, and to talk to Council and VicRoads staff.

About 50 members of the public came along to the evening’s Community Forum. This included displays of a wide range of Council activities. Councillors and staff were available to answer questions and discuss issues.

The Forum also included group discussions which allowed people to focus on specific areas of interest to them. At the Cowes forum groups discussed local laws and health, environment, roads and infrastructure, special events and tourism, and planning.

Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council, Cr John Gains said that he had thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

"Like all Councillors I spend a lot of time out and about talking to a wide range of people about a wide range of issues," he said.

"A Community Forum like this allows the community to see what a wide range of activities a modern Council undertakes, to ‘put names to faces’ of Councillors and staff, and to hear other points of view on issues."
