Mayor’s Message I have talked a lot recently about the growth that the Shire is experiencing along the coast and certainly a lot of our time is taken up with issues to do with these developments. By South Gippsland Shire Council - 4th October 2004 - Back to News But it is also important to recognise the place that farming has in the economic picture of our Shire. We are very much a rural community and nearly 50% of the rates come from rural properties.
Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the Poowong Dairy Expo and I would like to congratulate the Strzelecki Lions Club committee for the excellent job they do in organising this pivotal event in the farming calendar.
The Expo showcases the vast range of local dairy related businesses and the latest developments in what is the largest industry in South Gippsland. It positions us as industry leaders and attracts visitors from across Victoria and interstate. The specific industry focus is appreciated by visitors who can resolve many business dilemmas, network and complete deals in a target arena without the distraction of unrelated promotions.
The profits generated from the Expo also go to community groups in the area, so we have a win -win situation.
I hope the Expo will continue to prosper and be supported in future years.
