Apply now for youth theatre camp

Fifty young people in the Wellington Shire will have the opportunity to attend a free youth theatre camp during the school holidays.

By Wellington Shire Council - 13th June 2006 - Back to News

The project funded by VicHealth in conjunction with Wellington Shire Council will develop a play written and performed by young people which focuses on their experiences within their own communities.

Play Director Brendan Fitzgerald recently conducted workshops in Stratford, Rosedale, Maffra, Heyfield and Yarram with great success. Over 20 young people attended and were introduced to improvisation and story telling as well as having opportunity to discuss some themes for the play.

Wellington Shire Council Youth Development Officer, David Roberts said that those who had participated so far had really enjoyed their part in the project.

"Young people were extremely enthusiastic and some great ideas came forward for themes for the play" said Mr Roberts.

The Camp will be held at Rawson on June 19 to 21 will focus on story telling, character development and the basics of script writing. The camp will be free and young people will be assisted with transport to and from the camp.

Mr Roberts said that one of the great aspects of this project is that there is interest from across the whole Shire.

"It will make it a great experience for all those that attend"

A number of vacancies exist and young people interested in attending the camp should contact David Roberts or Pauline Rathnow at Wellington Shire Council on 1300 366 244.
