Still Time To Have Your Say About Inverloch Foreshore

Conserving and enhancing the area’s unique coastal vegetation

There are still two weeks for members of the community to have their say about the draft master plan for the Inverloch Foreshore area from St Kilda Street to Ayr Creek. The plan outlines how the area should be managed as well as future improvements.

"Many people, both locals and visitors, have already viewed the plan and made comments and suggestions," said Derek Hibbert, Environment/Coastal Officer with Bass Coast Shire Council.

25 members of the community attended a public meeting on Friday 1 November. Issues that were raised included tree management, public facilities, traffic management and pathways.

The plan was on display at the Rotary market in Inverloch recently, with many market goers commenting on the provisions in the plan.

The draft plan is also on display at Council’s Inverloch and Wonthaggi offices. It can be viewed during normal business hours.

Derek said that the area of the foreshore covered in the plan is popular with both residents and visitors.

"When developing the draft plan we have tried to provide for high visitor use while conserving and enhancing the area’s unique coastal vegetation," said Derek. "Having a master plan for the area also gives community groups and Council greater opportunities for attracting grants for improvement and conservation works."

The draft plan includes a landscape plan that identifies the proposed location of features such as beach access tracks, car parks, picnic and bbq areas, revegetation zones and a shared pathway.
