Well Done Carmen! From the Chief Commissioner:Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Simon Overland recently announced. a new online news site that will keep communities informed of crime in their local neighbourhood and policing issues impacting their lives. He said he hoped the regular release of crime statistics will make communities aware of what is happening in their local area, so they can take preventative measures. "If community members can see and learn what types of crimes are being committed in their backyard, they can work with police in preventing these crimes," In addition to the crime statistics, Victoria Police News includes official traffic updates, witness appeals, CCTV footage of incidents in which police are seeking public assistance and other police news of interest to the community. Mr Overland said "Victoria Police and the community had achieved significant reductions in crime over the past eight years". "I hope Victoria Police News will help the community to work with us to address these challenges and share the responsibility of collectively reducing crime." People can log on at www.vicpolicenews.com.au/myplace to access the latest crime statistics. Home Security:When window locks and door deadlocks are fitted it means the would be burglar has to break the glass and climb in through a broken window, which creates noise and causes a delay which increases the chance of being seen. The deadlocks prevent the doors from being opened. This means that after gaining entry, any goods that the criminal intends to steal have to be carried out through the broken window, with the dangers that entails. Remember do not leave the keys to the door or window locks in the house while you are out.
