Wellington Shire Flood Situation 12.30Pm Monday 9 July 2007

All towns except Licola are accessible.There is a moderate Flood Warning for the Macalister River Downstream of Lake Glenmaggie.

The Thomson River at Bundalaguah was flowing at 22,800 M/L a day this morning and was rising.

This will have an impact downstream in Sale with the South Gippsland Highway expected to be closed later today.

In Macalister Catchment upstream of Glenmaggie stream rises have occurred as a result of overnight rainfall. Forecast rainfall may cause renewed stream rises upstream of Lake Glenmaggie with a chance of minor flooding developing during Monday.

In the Macalister River downstream of Glenmaggie Southern Rural Water advise that the releases from Lake Glenmaggie will increase to 18,000 ML/Day during Monday morning with the moderate flood level being 22,000 ML/Day. These releases may increase slightly during the day if inflows increase significantly. Areas of minor to moderate flooding will continue around and downstream of Lake Glenmaggie during Monday.

The Licola Road is closed indefinitely due to major damage. A 4wd track has been created for essential services ONLY. A permit from the Heyfield DSE office is required before travelling.

Drivers are reminded not to attempt to drive through flood waters due to the possibility or washed out roads or bridges.

One Stop Shop and Recovery Line

A central phone number has been set up for flood affected residents.

The Recovery Information line number is 1300 137 218.

Information and services available include financial assistance, material aid, hard waste disposal and the pumping of septic tanks and other public health issues.

These services are provided by many different organisations, including the Wellington Shire Council, Centrelink, Department of Human Services (DHS), Lifeline, the Salvation Army and St Vincent De Paul, Kilmany Family Care and Churches.

Residents will be allowed free dumping of flood debris at Council transfer stations and Kilmany tip. Arrangements should be made through the Wellington Shire Recovery Help Line.

Landowners seeking information and assistance for farms should contact Department of Primary Industries recovery information line - 1800 729 834.

Stock Disposal is also available, to register contact the Recovery Information line 1300 137 218

Farming recovery

DPI are operating a farming recovery help line - 1800 729 834. They are also visiting farms in the area to assess damage and required assistance.

Municipal Emergency Co-ordination Centre

The Municipal Emergency Co-ordination Centre (MECC) is continuing to operate but in a limited form.

Loch Sport Community Recovery Meeting

A community meeting will be held Wednesday 11 July at the Loch Sport Community Hall for flood affected residents. The meeting will be held at 11am.

Information about services and help available for those people affected by flood waters will be available.

Longford Community Meeting

The Longford Community meeting scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday 10 July) is till on. The meeting will be held at the Longford Community Centre with a community barbecue starting at 6.30 and the meeting at 7.15. All residents welcome. (Please note this is not a flood recovery meeting. It part of Council’s program of regular community meetings.)

Community Cabinet

State Government Cabinet is meeting in Sale today and Ministers are also meeting with some community groups this afternoon. They will be visiting East Gippsland tomorrow.

Wellington Shire Council was given very good opportunity to explain the extent of the flood impacts to the Cabinet and has suggested a number of recovery projects to the government.

The good work of Council staff in preparing for and hosting this visit by Cabinet is recognised.
