Libs To Slash Red Tape For Small Country BusinessesOperating a successful small business in country Victoria is difficult because of the huge burden of the Bracks Labor Government’s red-tape and regulation. By Phillip Davis - 24th April 2006 - Back to News Shadow Minister for Country Victoria Philip Davis said today the Liberal Party would slash the Bracks Government’s never-ending red tape which was preventing small businesses in country Victoria operating to their full potential.
Mr Davis said a Liberal Government would immediately reform or completely scrap at least 10 of the Bracks Government’s unnecessary regulations that were causing problems for small business in country Victoria.
"Child employment laws will be first on the Liberal Government’s hit-list, because this ridiculous regulation relatives to undergo a police check before young family members can help in the family business," Mr Davis said.
"Also to be reformed will be the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 which gives unlimited entry rights to small businesses for unions, along with planning schemes that force farmers to seek formal approval before removing rabbit warrens if near native vegetation.
"A Liberal Government will also reform legislation that gives access for government inspectors to any Victorian workplace; increasing costs of licence fees for the aquaculture industry; increasing company and company officers liability in occupational health and safety and consumer affairs legislation; and unnecessary new layers of red tape and compliance on the food and hospitality industries.
Mr Davis said a Liberal Government would also end the current fiasco surrounding Easter trading.
"A Liberal Government will let country Victorian businesses decide whether to open their doors on Easter Sunday, to generate sales, employment, and to serve their local customers and holidaymakers," he said.
A Liberal Government will cut costs and red tape, streamline regulation, reform business taxes, provide sound and prudent economic management, improve infrastructure and provide country Victorian businesses with better access to information, technology and training.
