Microsoft glitch causes major problems

Have you been having trouble with your Messenger service? This is why...

Outrage grew as Australian Internet users were unable to use Microsoft Messenger for almost an entire week, citing questions of Microsoft’s reliability.

The instant messaging service, used worldwide largely by teenagers and young women numbering in their millions, have been complaining that their contact lists had been wiped, the result of a database computer failure.

Despite Microsoft’s assurance that the problem could be fixed within a day, the service has dropped out for six days so far, with some users were still experiencing problems.

Previously this year Microsoft’s free e-mail service Hotmail faltered desperately over several days. The combination of the two severe glitches have led business analysts to question Microsoft's ability to support a number of new paid-for
products offering the same services.

Microsoft hopes to improve its reputation before their release.
