Federal Advocacy List Gets the TickUpdated its Advocacy Priority list for the third time. By Portal Admin - 12th January 2019 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council has updated its Advocacy Priority list for the third time since it was initially established in October 2016.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, explained the consistent changes in this document are a positive reflection of investment in Bass Coast and delivery of priority projects.
"Recent State Election commitments and successful funding for Advocacy Priority projects provided the opportunity to re-assess the top advocacy priorities for the community," Cr Tessari said.
"The upcoming Federal Election also gave us a chance to approach the advocacy list with federal funding opportunities in mind."
The top advocacy priorities adopted by Council at the December Ordinary Meeting are:
- Arts and Culture – Cowes Cultural, and Community Centre
- Climate Change and Adaptation - Environment and Erosion
- Connectivity and Telecommunications
- Cowes Recreation and Aquatics Precinct
- Homelessness and Emergency Housing
- Pathways – Visitor Economy Infrastructure
- Tertiary Education Investment
- Wonthaggi as a Regional Centre including Aquatics
These priorities will be submitted to the Federal Government and local election candidates for policy and funding support in the lead up to the 2019 Federal Election.
Successful projects from the past two versions of this list include the Wonthaggi Hospital upgrade, Wonthaggi Secondary College’s new Senior Campus, Phillip Island Road/Back Beach Road intersection upgrade, Wonthaggi Highball Stadium, transfer of the current Wonthaggi Secondary College McBride Campus site, 24 hour health care for Phillip Island, maintenance to the Cowes Jetty and Planning Policy Changes – recognising Bass Coast as a Distinctive Area Landscape.
